Where to Elope in Squamish

With its stunning views and close proximity to Vancouver, Squamish is the perfect elopement destination. What I love about it is the variety of landscapes: granite rock walls to sweeping panoramic views, featuring the mountains and the sea, to tranquil forest settings - not to mention some incredible donut shops. Squamish truly has it all!

The hardest part is choosing the perfect location for your elopement, with so many hidden gems to pick from.

I’ve had the pleasure of living, working, and playing in Squamish for several years, which means I’ve had plenty of time to explore its hidden gems - whether during dog walks, hikes, or outdoor adventures. My passion for this town has given me an insider’s knowledge of the best spots, and I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’ve listed a few of my favorites below, BUT I’ve kept things a little mysterious on purpose... because I want you to email me! Then we can dive into all the hidden gems and get you happily married!

Oceanfront Elopements

Along Britannia and Porteau Cove, you can find access to the Squamish oceanfront, with sweeping views of the Howe Sound, where the mountains meet the sea.
These locations are often easily accessible, with a short walk and flat ground, making them ideal if anyone in your party has walking difficulties - or if you just love the water!

Forest Elopements

Living in the Pacific Northwest, we have such beautiful, lush rainforests, that set the stage for intimate settings in nature. With evergreen trees, mossy rocks, and fern and lichen-covered forest floors. Some of my favorite forest locations are along the Mamquam Service Road or in Squamish Valley. I also love the boulder fields, as the rocks make for striking natural features.

Mountain backdrops

If you don’t want to hike or get a heli, you can still have beautiful mountain photos. Easily accessible locations include the Squamish estuary or Valleycliffe - both have beautiful views of The Chief mountain.

Another striking location is Slhanay peak, which you can hike or drive to - note that at the time of writing (April, 2025) the service road is currently closed, so check ahead of time.

On top of a mountain

If you want to be on top of the mountain, you’ve got options!
You can take a helicopter ride for a jaw-dropping aerial view of Squamish and the surrounding areas, or take the Sea to Sky Gondola to access panoramic views from the top, all while avoiding the physical challenge of hiking. These locations offer dramatic, awe-inspiring backdrops for a truly memorable ceremony.
See more about my helicopter packages on my elopement package page. The image below was snapped by Kai Jacobson.

I used to work as Sea to Sky Gondola’s Events Manager, so I have organized and witnessed 100s of weddings up there, and know all about their policies and elopement locations. Booking in an elopement requires advance notice, and the cost is $1,500 (at the time of writing) which includes the lift tickets, chairs, and signing table. See their 2025 wedding package here.

Hiking Elopements

There are so many amazing hikes in the Sea to Sky, so you’re spoiled for choice. I love Watersprite Lake or Brandywine Meadows (especially when the wildflowers are in bloom).

Note: Hiking elopements are subject to an adventure ceremony fee, as they require substantial time and effort. I bundle everything into a package, helping you find your perfect photographer and creating a timeline for the day.

Waterside Elopements

  • Lakes: Cat Lake is easily accessible and provides a serene setting, with the water surrounded by evergreen trees. Bonus: If you’re brave, you can jump in the lake post-nuptials! (One thing to note is that you must get a permit to marry in provincial parks, which is why I haven’t suggested the four lakes found in Alice Lake Provincial Park - more info on permits at the bottom of this post). I’d also love to marry some cuties at Levette Lake - it has such beautiful mountains in the background.

  • Riverside: Fisherman’s Park / Judd Beach has lots of private nooks by the river, with mountains in the background, and it’s easy to access.

  • Waterfalls: The most well known waterfall location is of course, Mamquam Falls - but we have some other hidden gems. (Shannon Falls is a provincial park, requiring a permit).

Add an activity

We have a number of incredible elopement locations that are only accessible by boat - so we can either paddle ourselves or get a zodiac. For the rock climbers, get married on a multi, at the crag or boulders, or on a portaledge. Take a private sailboat out on the water, or rent a private sauna by the river for your post-married sauna session.

And the best for last…

And finally, my favorite spot. This is where I had my first date with my partner - we met online, then I had him meet me in a carpark and walked him to this scenic lookout.
The walk is only ten minutes - and you’re rewarded for the short jaunt. You pop out at the most scenic clifftop, with ample room for the ceremony, a first dance, and to capture photos with the Howe Sound and mountains in the background. On the short trail, you’ll also have opportunity for rock and forest photos. To learn more about this spot, book a consult with me by emailing hello@seatoskyofficiant.com. I’d be happy to help you plan your special day here!

TIPS FOR ELOPING IN SQUAMISH:

  • Consider the noises: When choosing your location, think about how close it is to the highway - there are lots of pretty roadside locations, but you don’t want your vows interrupted by the sound of passing cars!
Some river locations can have a lot of rushing water noise, which is beautiful for photos but might be too loud for a ceremony. In this instance, I’ll host the ceremony at a quieter spot, then go to the riverside location for photos.

  • Veil weights: Squamish means ‘mother of wind’ in the Frist Nations language, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation. If you’re eloping outdoors and plan to wear a veil, consider using veil weights.

  • Shoes: If you're hiking to your location, sturdy footwear is important! You don’t want to get your pretty white heels dirty before we start - or roll an ankle! I tell my couples to hike in with sturdy shoes, and change right before the ceremony.

  • Change room: You’ll likely travel to the elopement location with your love - so how do you do a first look? I have a pop-up change room tent that I offer to couples, so you can travel to the spot together, then get changed for a first look or your ceremony. It’s a great option for couples who want to keep their outfits a surprise!

  • Permits: You require a permit to get married in a provincial park, which is why I’ve not mentioned Shannon Falls + Murrin. To look into the permit process, contact Sea to Sky Parks.

While I love an elegant indoor ceremony, in an art gallery or ballroom, I love eloping outdoors just as much. If you have any questions about an elopement spot in Squamish, email me at hello@seatoskyofficiant.com!
